Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Honors 59 Physician Groups in the 14th Annual Physician Group Honor Roll

Jan 20, 2016
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care logoWellesley, MA (January 20, 2016) – Fifty-nine physician groups in Massachusetts and New Hampshire have been named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s 14th annual Physician Group Honor Roll. The Harvard Pilgrim Honor Roll highlights physician groups that have achieved exceptional results in their approach to disease prevention and the treatment of acute and chronic illness for both adult and pediatric patients. The Physician Honor Roll complements Harvard Pilgrim’s annual Honor Roll for Hospitals.

Harvard Pilgrim selected the Honor Roll physician groups based on clinical performance measured against national standards set by HEDIS® (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set), a tool developed for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) to assess the clinical performance of doctors and other medical professionals. Harvard Pilgrim reviewed performance in three domains of clinical care affecting both adult and pediatric patients: acute, chronic and preventive care. Physician groups were identified as Honor Roll practices based on points earned for performance on 15 measures such as appropriate treatment for children with upper respiratory infection, comprehensive diabetes care and breast cancer screenings.

“Harvard Pilgrim is proud to recognize these Honor Roll physician groups that are providing our members with high quality care,” said Eric H. Schultz, president and CEO, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.

“In this time of great change in health care, we want to acknowledge these physicians for their focus and dedication to quality and patient safety.”

“Expectations of physicians to provide quality care at affordable prices are increasingly high,” said Michael Sherman, MD, chief medical officer, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. “These physician groups are notable for their ability to keep patients at the forefront as health care evolves towards a greater outcomes and value orientation.”

Honor roll practice providers are noted in Harvard Pilgrim’s printed and online provider directories, as well as on the organization’s web site and Now iKnow cost and quality transparency tool, enabling members to evaluate and select physicians based on quality measures. Seventeen practices making the Honor Roll achieved the respected “With Distinction” status, meaning they have exceeded the national 90th percentile on all domains used in the evaluation.
