Wheeler’s 31st Annual Golf Classic at The Country Club of Farmington on June 13, 2016 raised $56,000, bringing the amount raised since inception to more than $1 million.

“We are extremely grateful to our golfers, sponsors and volunteers whose unwavering generosity and support have helped us achieve this incredible milestone,” said Susan Walkama, LCSW, president and chief executive officer, Wheeler. “Our remarkable event supporters, many of whom have been with us for decades, make it possible for Wheeler to provide equitable access to innovative care to that improves, health, recovery and growth at all stages of life.

“This year, especially, funds raised will be used to sustain critically needed services for individuals and families across Connecticut,” Walkama added.

The Wheeler Golf Classic was founded by a group of business leaders and top companies in 1986, and some of the original supporters still remain involved today. Event sponsors such as Yarde Metals of Southington have participated since the tournament’s first year, sharing a commitment to improving the health and well-being of families and the community. Other sponsors such as McPhee Electric and Tollman Spring Company have been 30-year sponsors, and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield celebrated their 15th year of support this year.

“We appreciate the support of all of our players, sponsors and friends who are committed to Wheeler and the children, families and communities they serve,” said Les Hyatt, president, Nutmeg Precision Sales, LLC, and 2016 Wheeler Golf Classic chair.

Proceeds from Golf Classic events have helped Wheeler address emergent community needs such as ensuring access to integrated primary and behavioral health services in underserved communities and providing a state-of-the art learning environment for students with emotional and behavioral challenges.

Wheeler’s 31st Annual Golf Classic was made possible by a number of local businesses, including Platinum Dinner Sponsor, Farmington Bank, which has supported the event for more than 20 years; Platinum Logo Sponsor, Manafort Family Foundation, a Golf Classic supporter for 17 years; and Golf Cart Sponsor, Loureiro Engineering Associates, Inc. and Lunch Sponsor Gibbs, which each have been involved for more than 16 years.  Additionally, the event was supported by members of the Chairman’s Circle, including Barnes Group, Inc., Mott Corporation, Mutual of America, and Laurie and Bill Torres.
