Free Toddler Nutrition Program Launched at Corsini Kitchen, 49 Woodland Street, Hartford

Mar 05, 2019

Starting in March, observed as National Nutrition Month, Wheeler’s registered dietitian and diabetes educator, Jessica Masterson, RDN, CDN, will host twice-monthly, free toddler nutrition classes and cooking demonstrations to help parents and caregivers keep their children healthy.

Provided to the community free through the support of the Corsini Family and the Lori Ann and David Brantner Charitable Fund, the events are held at the Corsini Demonstration Kitchen at Wheeler's Family Health & Wellness Center, a community health center at 43–49 Woodland Street in Hartford.

“Good nutrition is an essential building block of a child’s overall health,” said Susan Walkama, LCSW, president and chief executive officer, Wheeler. “This innovative, family-friendly program is designed to help parents and caregivers to better understand the essential elements of nutrition and to make healthy decisions about their child’s diet.”

Nutrition classes, designed for parents and caregivers of children ages 1-3, feature a general overview of nutrition with rotating topics. Cooking demonstrations include a brief introduction to nutrition and nutrition basics, including nutritional qualities of ingredients, acceptable substitutions, take-home non-perishables, recipes and more.

Childcare and activities for children are provided. A free gift is available for all participants after every class, and anyone attending three classes can receive a $50 grocery store gift card.

Pre-registration is not required, but strongly recommended by RSVPing to Jessica Masterson at JMasterson@Wheelerclinic.org.
