is a mom, scientist and CEO with a mission to cure cancer. Gitte started Genomic Expression together with her brother, Morten, after her parents were diagnosed with cancer. The company raised $8M to conduct four clinical trials focusing on women’s cancers first. Only one out of four cancer treatments prolongs life. Genomic Expression finds the best drug for the patient and the best patient for the drug by sequencing RNA, which Gitte likens to the software of the cell, instead of DNA, which she likens to the hard disk. RNA analysis can show if a tumor will respond to new immune therapies, which are the only kind of therapies that offer a potential cure.
Genomic Expression was in the top 10 companies to pitch for the Sir Richard Branson Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) and invited to dinner with Branson on Necker’s Island. The company also won the Lyfebulb-Helsinn Award, and the EUTop 50 Award, and presented at the European Parliament.
Prior to Genomic Expression, Gitte advised a number of small and medium sized biotech companies as well as the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Her deal resume is +$1B. Gitte has a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor’s in International Trade. Gitte recently joined Pipeline Angels and made her first angel investment. She co-founded Female Equity (www.femaleequity.org
) which is a network organization for female founders and investors having fun(d) paddle boarding.
